summary-panda-no-background

Parker Breckinridge is a sophomore in college and already running her own internet cosmetics business. She doesn’t apologize for her successes – or anything else. She’s worked hard to get what where she is. She’s had to. It’s not like there was anything else in her life, despite her rich family.

Cade Adler doesn’t do relationships – especially relationships with uptight princesses. Been there. Done that. Destroyed the T-shirt. Besides, what with working full-time as a police officer and going to school, who has time for women? Not him.

With his tattoos and overall attitude, Cade is exactly what Parker doesn’t need. And between her father’s money and her piss-poor attitude, Parker is exactly what Cade doesn’t need.

So why is it they can’t stay apart?

applause

Vanessa: Well, I have to say when I received this topic to write about, I wanted to laugh. I don’t generally wear cosmetics. My skin is so sensitive; I have to be very careful what I use. But then I realized why I’m being asked, I just wrote a book about a woman who makes her own make-up. And I remembered all the research I’d done on organic make-up and how I’d used that information to change out some of my previous make-up selection. And I went ”oh yeah”, I can talk about that.

Annelise: sorry! But yeah, usually one thinks you’d be a makeup lover after hearing about The Make Up Test? >.<

TOP 5 Comestic Products, by Vanessa M. Knight*

1) Chapstick – Cake Batter Flavor

You had me at Cake Batter. How can you not love anything that tastes like cake batter? You can’t. It’s amazing. Once you put it on your lips, you can smell that sugar-like batter scent. You can taste it with every breath. It’s comforting and delicious. Oh, and it keeps your lips hydrated, too.

2) Bare Minerals foundation and finishing powder

https://images.ulta.com/is/image/Ulta/2215316?$detail$

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with foundation. The liquid usually clogs my pores and I look worse the next day. One of the reasons I’ve hated wearing makeup over the years is because of skin irritation. Day one I might have splotchy cheeks or one blemish. I’d use the foundation and after one week, I’d have splotchy cheeks, five blemishes, and a splotchy forehead. Every day I’d need more makeup to cover the new problems from the day before. Not exactly the direction one looks for in one’s make-up.

Then I started using the powders of Bare Minerals. They hide the imperfections without looking caked on. I don’t find new issues after I remove the make-up. I love it has SPF 15 for my fair skin. Overall, it’s the first make-up I can use on a regular basis without worrying about my skin’s health.

3) Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+

Face lotion can go hand and hand with foundation, especially when you use powdered make-up. And the problems I found with liquid foundations, I also found in face lotions. I have combination skin with a propensity to allergic reactions. So finding something that wouldn’t cause an allergic rash or breakouts was hard to do.

But my sister recommended this lotion and it’s been a life saver. Even if I don’t wear make-up on a given day, I keep my skin hydrated with this lotion. It’s light and gives my skin a nice glow.

4) Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother

I love this lip gloss. I’m really fair skinned, so I have to have protection, even on my lips. I’m the wierdo who goes to Mexico and leaves looking like she sucked on a cherry Popsicle. This lip gloss has SPF20, which keeps the burning away. I’m all about that.

5) Le Couvent Des Minimes: Gardner’s Hand Healer

I’m not sure if body lotion fits into cosmetics, but I couldn’t make this list without my absolute favorite lotion. As I’ve mentioned, I’m allergic to everything and my skin is fair, so everything irritates it. So when I find something that not only moisturizes, but that actually works, I want to shout it from the mountaintops.

This lotion is shea butter based, which seems to work best on my skin. It’s a little thick at the onset, but absorbs quickly and leaves the hands moisturized without that sticky feel.

Vanessa: In my book the Makeup Test, Parker started making her own makeup because nothing on the shelf worked for her. However, we all know that shelf is big. Have you ever made your own makeup? Why? Do you have a favorite product you just can’t live without?

Annelise: Ooh, this panda has never attempted to do her own makeup. While I do love to read about the subject and love everything regarding the fashion world, I don’t have many beauty skills. Also, I have the luck of not having an allergic skin – the product has to be VERY strong for my complexion to show a negative reaction. But if I had to choose a favorite product among all the ones I own, it would be my favorite purple matte liquid lipstick, from a local Brazilian brand ❤

cover-analysis-panda-no-background

While I don’t feel that this cover illustrates properly the blurb – I mean, no elements hinting at all at the makeup -it is a good cover. The models are in a cute position, the cover has a fresh feeling, the shades of green and white… Everything is great. It just doesn’t represents the book. Again. This panda is upset.

Vanessa M. Knight has always enjoyed writing and once she found romance, she was addicted. She props her laptop in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, son and menagerie of 4-pawed, claw-babies (AKA cats and dogs.) That laptop has partnered-in-crime to write contemporary romances with a dash of humor and splash of snark.

When she has a few moments to spare, you can find her singing off key (but she assures us it’s still considered singing), reading, kickboxing or killing a few brain cells as she stares at the many sitcoms and dramas available through the Internet and TV.
