Forget Me Always, from Sara Wolf (Lovely Vicious #2)

Good Saturday morning to you! Nope, you’re not hallucinating from the booze you had last night, this is not an April Fool’s prank because we are kind of in November and no cameras are going to jump on you to reveal a trap! Or at least, if this happens, which I really wish you never have to experience, I can assure you it wasn’t on me and will lend you a friendly shoulder for some hate shouts towards the pranksters?

I’m back with a review and one for a series that shook my ground hard earlier this year: Lovely Vicious, from the brilliant goddess Sara Wolf. This review is for the second book in the series, Forget Me Always, which I received from the Chapter by Chapter’s team in exchange for an honest review. As always, thanks so much!

As this is the second book in the series, you may want to read what I have to say about the first book before diving into this particular review =)

Love Me Never (Lovely Vicious #1)

Ok, now we’re good to go!

forget-me-always

the story

There are really few things in the world able to ruin Isis Blake’s good moods. Being thrown to a wall and cracking her head open doesn’t even make her top 10 list – she’s doing very well, thank you very  much. She’s just afraid her fabulous brain will root in boredom at the hospital her doctor insists she needs.

One of the top 5 things that do bother Isis Blake is Jack Hunter. Apparently, they were epic enemies at the most awesome war the world has ever seen, but Isis is sure she would remember such a beautiful and insufferable guy. She would never ever forget the most awesome war the world has ever seen as well, as she for sure would be responsible for it. To make things worse, Sophia, her friend met at the hospital, insists Isis and Jack not only knew each other, but also had something together.

Isis would remember such life changing facts, wouldn’t she? Besides, how is it possible for the dragon to fall for the prince?

~*~

Jack Hunter cares about really few things in life. One of them is Isis Blake – in fact, she is the whole center of his existence since the Halloween Party they attended together, before Isis’ attack.

For the first time in a long while, all Jack wanted was to make things right. To have peace along the most fabulous and amazing girl he’d ever met. However, it seems it isn’t his fate to find happiness: he wasn’t fast enough. He couldn’t save Isis. And now he had lost her in the worst way possible: she’s right in front of him… and remembers nothing of his existence.

Isis Blake may be the one with the head cracked open, but Jack Hunter is the truly messed up one. And then there is Sophia, closer and closer to the truth about Jack’s feelings despite all his efforts to keep loving her and only her.

Another war begins and memories can prove to be the worst enemies of all times.

the analysis

Just remembering those are my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

To be honest, when I opened my ebook for Forget Me Always, I was afraid. You see, Love Me Never is one of my best 2016 reads and I was truly scared to my bones not to have all the feels back in Forget Me Always. As soon as I started it, I smiled and all my worries were gone: Isis Blake, one of my best bookish friends forever, was back and even in better shape than before.

The relief was huge and I’m afraid I may have highlighted the whole book with fabulous quotes, dialogues and general life wisdom from both Isis and Jack. You can feel their growth between the books and how much life burdens them, we finally can feel how heavy Wolf’s themes truly are behind all the brilliant jokes and ingenious come backs. We finally start to have some concret answers and still, Wolf shatters our world with another cliff hanger at the end. SERIOUSLY WOMAN, WHY KEEP PLAYING MY HEART LIKE THIS IF YOU KNOW I’LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY NOW TO FINISH THIS SERIES?!

how-rude-full-house

Overall, Forget Me Always has that feeling of déjà vu all over it – you kind of know what’s coming and it’s heavy, but you don’t quite believe it and it’s a shock to find out anyway. Plus, quotes even better than Love Me Never’s and omg answers, and trust me when I say we really needed those. So, all in all, five huge stars!!! ❤

tumblr_lhi8dfEAZZ1qau6v1o1_r1_500

The narrative pace keeps fast and light despite all the dark themes and we are once again follow Isis and Jack’s points of view. The major change is that we see much more of Jack’s POV, as he isn’t a mystery anymore – he is just still part of a bigger one. I really liked to see more of him and understand his motives better, but nothing beats Isis Blake as a narrator – not even Integrity Aidar, I’m afraid. But I’ll get to this later, haha!

ive-got-a-war-in-my-mind

The plot was twisted, but not highly complex. I was able to guess at many revelations and uncover some secrets way before they came, but the way Wolf tells you the story, she makes you feel genuinely surprised to see you were right or to watch as your own face collides with the floor. Seriously, this book is. All. The. Feels. I’m in love.

is-it-possible-to-be-sexually-attracted-to-an-object

As it happened with the first volume, the characters are the main attraction. Honestly, everyone is so complex! Not a single person here is only good or only bad – not even Avery, I guarantee you. Not even Isis. Everyone has a dark side, the difference is in how much and for how long they can hide it from society. Jack is the epitome of this case, as he looks like a cool and bored teen on the outside and almost has a case of double personality about him. Isis is his perfect match in more than one way, as she seems to be bubbly and obnoxious all the time when actually she has deeper scars on her heart that won’t never ever truly heal. Both of them show us there is never only one way out to cope with grief, with fear and despair. What you do and who you chose to be after your world shatters is what truly tells how strong you are and how strong you can become.

Now that I think about it, the whole purpose of the Lovely Vicious series is how your life choices impact on who you’ll be since your childhood; how there are things you will never be able to truly erase, no matter how much you try to set things right, how much you fight your demons and how much you run from life. Some things will always be a stain to your heart, to your head and your feelings, but it’s you who will decide how much you’ll stop living to keep suffering. Only you can truly free yourself.

Of course, having people to support you and to be there for you counts a lot. Seriously, sometimes it can be the difference between you keep breathing on a moment of weakness. But in the end of the day, no one else can decide how to live your own life: it’s up to you. And this is one of the scariest shits ever.

supernatural-crowley-let-me-tell-you-about-my-feels

Sorry, things got a little heavy here, haha! I think this book just hits too close from home and it makes me think so much about my own life choices, oops! I’ll stop with the motivational speech now and keep talking about Forget Me Always – I’ll leave the motivational stuff for Sarah, because if you want to talk about deep, real and serious human problems, that’s how you do it.

oh-thats-clever-thats-very-clever-awfully-clever

Also, just out of curiosity, I heard a song yesterday while working that clicked in so nicely with this book I almost dropped all I was doing and started my reading session earlier, haha! I’m not sure how many of you are acquitted with the song Part II, from Paramore, but I promise it is the perfect soundtack to Forget Me Always ❤ To be honest, I’m really proud of myself for managing to stumble on find a perfect song for this book, as I rarely have this opportunity, haha! For the ones that don’t know this particular song or even this band, I question: where have you been on the late 2000’s? leave here the link to a lyric video for it I found at Youtube:

And, just to wrap up this review, as this is oh-so-long, I wanted to leave you with some wisdom from Sarah Wolf in Forget Me Always! (Meaning: QUOTES TIME!)

“(…) people keep asking [if you’re better] anyway because it’s how you show concern for someone you care about, I guess, but frankly a giant box of chocolate truffles and a reign over a small kingdom would be acceptable stand-ins.” – Isis

~*~

“Sniffing out tragedy is sort of my entire deal.” – Isis

~*~

“I mean, most things that pop into my head are really weird, like that one time when I thought about Shrek in Victoria’s Secret underwear, but I think this actually beats Shrek’s Secret.” – Isis

~*~

“He [Jack] must’ve done something really shitty if I pulled out the medieval terminology.” – Isis

~*~

“Some normalcy has to be put between the darkness and us. That’s how you get enough strength to face it.” – Isis

~*~

“He’s my dream man, right? So, if my dream man is someone who can never really exist, then he can’t hurt me. He can’t come up and make me fall in love with him and smash my heart.” – Isis

~*~

“[Jack] Probably got in a fight with the mirror when he saw it was prettier than him.” – Isis

~*~

“Ketchup is the great illusion. Only when you put barbecue sauce on your fries will you know truth and freedom” – Isis

~*~

And these winning dialogues:

Sophia: What are you thinking?

Isis: Deep, intense thoughts. So deep. At least two indie songs’ worth of deep.

~*~

Isis: Ah, look, never mind. It’s cool. You got some secrets, I got some secrets. Our secrets should get married and have babies. Platonically. Entirely platonic baby-making.

Wren: Is that…a thing?

~*~

Isis: How you’re doing, old pal?

Knife Guy: We’ve known each other five months.

Isis: Five months in dog years is like, ten years. We’re practically family.

Knife Guy: Are you crying?

Isis: What, this? Nah, just a piece of teen angst stuck in my eye. Nirvana would be proud.

~*~

Isis: Oh, I hate you so much.

Jack: Good. I prefer it to the silence.

~*~

Kayla: You can’t even say ‘dick’ without vomiting in your mouth a little. And sometimes on desks. And small children.

Isis: That was one time, and that kid totally walked into the flight path of my vomit. It’s not my fault if he had no grasp of liquid physics.

~*~

supernatural-sam-seems-legit

Soo, wrapping things up really quick because EVERYTHING happened at this review: deep reflections, quotes, fangirlings, songs that fit books, omg! I’m so sorry to make you come all this way down, but I swear I’m done, haha! All is left to say is: if you like contemporary YA, strong characters, a touch of mystery and pop culture references all over, you need Lovely Vicious in your life and bookshelves!

Veiled Threat, from Helen Harper (Highland Magic #3)

(Alternative title: the book that made me into “the crazy girl from the 15th floor” to my neighbors because it was too awesome for me to keep my emotions to a human level)

Hello, guys! How are you doing? Are you ready for September? I’m ready for December since March, so… YAY SEPTEMBER! Hahaha 😀 Moving on to the book we’ll be discussing today: third volume to the Highland Magic series, from brilliant Helen Harper: Veiled Threat! I finished this in May or June, but you know. Drama drama drama, laziness, job and no review at all.

life sucks and then it gets better and then it sucks again

But never fear, this will be fixed! I won my copy from the author herself in exchange for an honest review and I can’t thank her enough for the kindness. She knew I was dying without Integrity in my life ❤ (I know, that sounded so wrong, hahaha!) Thanks, Helen! You rock hard!

veiled threat

Oh, before we start, you may want to read the reviews for books one and two on this series!

Gifted Thief (Highland Magic #1) | Honour Bound (Highland Magic #2)

the story

Integrity can’t catch a break. After all the emotions of the Sidhe games, she got her ancestors’ lands back, but her problems are just beginning. There is something wrong with the local safety magic, her new place is glued to the Fomori entrance to their side of the veil, her crush’s father is still plotting to kill her and everybody thinks she’s building an army.

And to make things worse, her crush, Byron Montecrieff, is back to her life, as she needs to pay back a favor to another Sidhe family. Can Integrity focus on her mission, get the man of her dreams to believe that his father is a merciless killer and restore her clan’s magic?

There is only one thing certain on Integrity Taylor Aidar’s life right now: she needs vacation.

anigif_enhanced-buzz-5351-1389581734-11

the analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

Soooo, if you knew me before my breakdown, you probably know I’ll all over the place when the subject is Integrity Taylor Aidar. She is my ultimate bookish bff and I can never get enough of her or this series! ❤ If you wanted a bitchy review, well… As two contemporary and respected thinkers would say…

the road to eldorado the stars can't do it not today

Sorry, guys! Without any further ado, this was a five stars read. Besides seeing my beloved characters once again, I also got to have chills at the unknown and almost die with the HARD twist right before the end. Also, it was the first time we saw the story from another perspective, as this series is told by Integrity herself. Which takes us back to the first person narrator thing: this was a case of deep and mad love for the protagonist that made everything work out ❤

Well, I’m tripping over myself on this review, haha! As I already talked about the narrative, I’m going to only add that Harper’s writing style – full of humor and clever remarks – is bewitching to the point that I talked back to the book when Integrity was mussing around, haha! And that was how I got known by my neighbors as the crazy girl from the 15th floor. My favorite part in the technical aspect is how Harper is able to give life to the book as a whole thing – not only for her characters. I felt it all reading this series and, with Veiled Threat, wasn’t any different.

perfection

The plot was by far the best of the three books. I felt on the edge from page 1 to 238. As I told, there is a huge twist in the end that I totally didn’t see coming and was crying before realizing what the hell was happening, oops! Have I already mentioned that Harper is a genius? SHE IS. I also love that, no matter how heavy things are, she always finds a way to break the reader’s tension, you know? She gives us time to digest all the bad things without being boring 🙂 I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I don’t know about you guys, but I really feel the burden of a totally dramatic book from beginning to end 😦

feelings crowley supernatural

As it goes with characters, I liked the new ones that we meet and I must say that I’m a character hoarder. I mean, I love when you slowly pile up characters into a plot and everybody lives with everybody, haha! The more, the merrier, and that is how this series goes ❤ Integrity meets new friends, new villains and they are all there with her all the time, haha!

people come for me all the time they just dont find me tumblr
that’s Integrity for you, haha!

Hm, I can’t think of anything new to say about characters, as this is my third volume, haha! Integrity is still her clever and funny self, Byron is still a sexy bitch, his father is still a bore and everybody is still awesome, haha! #sohelpful #sarcasm

Now, can we just stop my drooling for a moment to appreciate the awesome cover of Veiled Threat, please? Seriously, I loved it so hard. I wish I had a paperback with this, haha! Maybe next year 🙂

Hmm, I don’t think I have anything else that is useful to say besides: YOU NEED THIS BOOK SERIES IN YOUR LIFE! Do you like fantasy? Dystopian? Awesome Geek references? Kick ass female protagonists? Sexy men? JUST RUN TO AMAZON AND DOWNLOAD THIS FOR GOD’S SAKE! I need people to fangirl with me over this series!!!!

Thanks for reading all of this! I know I tend to babble a lot – if not ranting, complimenting, haha! – so thanks for the patience 😀 Also, thanks again to Helen Harper for being the awesome person she is and for sending me her book ❤ December won’t be here soon enough for me to read the next book!!

Love you all and see you some other random time!

Love Me Never, from Sara Wolf (Lovely Vicious #1)

Hi, there! Welcome to the second official review of the day 😀 It’s part of my stop at Love Me Never Blog Tour, hosted by Chapter by Chapter 😀 I’ve received my copy of Love Me Never, first book in the Lovely Vicious series from Sara Wolf, in exchange for an honest review and the moment has arrived!

love me never.JPG
from my Instagram

the story

3 years, 9 weeks, 5 days.

That’s how long it has been since the last time that Isis Blake fell in love. If she can help, this counting will never end. She knows that ugly people like her are not loved, so why even try? She’s okay with being just awesome and perfect all the time instead. Also, she’s the new girl in school, so she has yet to teach people in East Summit High how awesome she is.

Her regular boring high school days come to an end rather quickly, as Isis ends punching the most beautiful and unsuferable boy of the school right in his nose during her first party. How can people allow Jack Hunter to say the most awful things to their face and still like him?

Someone has to put the Ice Prince back into his place in humanity. And Isis is more than willing to be this awesome martyr.

The war is on.

anigif_enhanced-buzz-5351-1389581734-11

the analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

Honestly? This book was everything I’d hope for and more. SO. MUCH. MORE. I laughed out loud so many times with Isis that my cheeks still hurt, haha! She was one of the best female characters ever and she officially joined my bookish bffs army! Seriously, she rocked my world. I’m feeling blessed for meeting so many wonderful contemporary romances lately – a book like Love Me Never makes me re-think all my previous opinions of the genre and see it in a whole new way!

tumblr_mu9h1b48nW1rix3h3o1_500

Also, I could NEVER EVER have predicted that twist and the cliff hanger in the end, OMG! Without any shade of doubt, this is a full big five stars read!

The narrative style is first person, switching points between Isis and Jack, but we mainly follow Isis around, as Jack is the mystery to be solved. I loved Isis and I longed for this sense of camaraderie since Integrity and Gifted Thief. I can only imagine the size of the damages both women would do if working together, haha! World domination is a given!

The plot is ingenious and makes the reader wonder through the possibilities all the time. It’s not really hard to guess the whole story with Isis, but we are left wanting for what Jack truly did for so long! It’s nothing Sherlock Holmes-like complex or anything, but the war and the strings that Jack and Isis pull off during it is just BREATHTAKING! AND THAT TWIST IN THE END?! OMG OMG OMG!!!

i like sam winchester supernatural

The lower characters were totally obfuscated by Isis and Jack. While Jack is the not so mainstream beautiful untouchable type minus the vampireness, Isis is the epitome of a bubbly, smart-ass and strong teen girl. She has insecurities, has deep problems with herself and still manages to pull it all off and have fun, being always true to herself and her beliefs – no matter the social costs of that. Kayla, Wren and Avery also had a big part to play and were very well constructed characters, but seriously. I can’t see their shine like Isis does. ❤

I decided that Jack earned his spot on My Bookish Boyfriends list, despite some things that he did during the story that left me less than impressed. I have a weakness for good looking, really bad and mean and intelligent guys. I wish more real men would appreciate the beauty of being intelligent, haha! Also, Jack reads manga! OMG!

the club can't even handle me.gif

The strongest point on the book is for sure its dialogues and Isis deep thoughts. She’s the what-you-see-is-what-you-get person when it comes to her mouth, so she talks exactly in the way she thinks and this can be both brilliant and hilarious, haha! I took the liberty of selecting some pearls from the book for you to understand what I’m talking about, haha!

This dialogue when Isis first meets Kayla:

Kayla: They are probably VEOs or something.

Isis: CEOs.

Kayla: Yeah! I guess it’s a really important job, but then I thought about it really hard and how can it be so important if it’s only three letters?

Isis: You may be onto something. Something very drunk, byt definitely something.

~*~

This dialogue between Isis and her mom:

Mom: Did you have fun? How many boys did you make out with?

Isis: Seventy. At least.

Mom: How many shots did you take?

Isis: Fourteen. I let go of the wheel halfway home and Jesus drove me the rest of the way.

Mom: I’m glad you had fun.

~*~

A small sneak peek of how Isis and Jack war goes:

Jack: How did you find me? If you hacked into the Club’s computer to look up my appointments-

Isis: Whoa, I think you overestimate me, shitlord. Last time I checked, all I did was be in the wrong place at the right time. I saw you and had to-

Jack: Stalk me.

Isis: – delicately approach you. In a sideways manner. From behind. Without being seen at all. For ten minutes.

~*~

And those Isis solo wisdom moments:

“If I were less perfect I would probably be bothered by insults.”

~*~

“And he uses big weird words, so he’s probably a huge nerd. To be fair, I do, too, but that’s because I’m mildly fabulous. Jack has no such excuse.”

~*~

“Thanks, ancient Chinese philosofers. You guys are the best. And the deadest. But mostly the best.”

~*~

“If there’s anything I’ve learned this year, it’s that I have to stand up for myself, or no one else will.”

~*~

“I know it’s hard to believe, but some people my age aren’t entirely obsessed with the idiotic game called dating! Some of us have lives! And generally higher goals than messing around with our peers. I’ve got colleges to apply to! And friends to hang out with! And an entire life to plan!”

~*~

“I’m not fighting anybody. Well, I have to fight on a daily basis not to marry myself, but no.”

~*~

Overall, If you love YA, fun and galaxy-talking-proportions mind-blowing books, electrical and strong protagonists and a good mystery, PLEASE STOP READING MY DAMN BLOG AND GO READ LOVE ME NEVER!!!

That’s it, thanks so much for reading! And thanks again to Chapter by Chapter for my stop on the tour and for my review copy ❤

Honour Bound, from Helen Harper (Highland Magic #2)

Hi, there! I’m back with another breathtaking book that almost killed me with its cliffhanger, haha! I could only be talking about Honour Bound, the second book in the Hightland Magic series, from wonderful Helen Harper! I had read Gifted Thief in the end of January and fell in love with it [you can read my fangirl review here lol], so it was only natural for me to pin hard for the next book ❤ Helen was more than happy to include me on the reviewers team and send me Honour Bound in exchange of another honest review 😀 Thank you so much!!

honour bound.JPG
from my Instagram 😀

The Story

After helping the Sidhe clans to rescue the source of their power, Integrity decided to play it low and live by her name instead of resume her thievery career with her crew and stepfather. Now they all lived in a small city and Integrity’s new job was to rescue people lost in the mountains.

All was well until one particular rescue, involving two Sidhe members of the Moncrieffe clan; Byron’s clan. To her complete surprise, the demon himself came to pick the lost members off and Integrity sees the perfect opportunity to start restoring her own clan’s domains and name: the Sidhe Games. The winner could ask for anything of the Sidhe council and have it.

Integrity just wasn’t prepared to face honourable games with so much lack of honour. And for the fact that she and Byron were more than frenemies now. Or for all the implications of the real activities held by Byron’s father, Aifric, the most power and dangerous man of all Sidhe.

anigif_enhanced-buzz-5351-1389581734-11

The Analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

I was dying to read this book since I finished Gifted Thief, but at the same time, I didn’t want it to end. Integrity is one of my best bookish friends and it always hurts to say goodbye to her… I wanted to have this review up by February 29th, the day of Honour Bound release, but I couldn’t bring myself to end it. I needed more Integrity on my life [haha]. I needed more of this world, of those characters. Hell, I still need more! I can’t believe May is going to take SO LONG to arrive! I need the next book right now! Oh, and before my mind takes me too deep into this lament, I’d like to say that this sequel left me as shaken as the first book and it is a five full stars title! 😀

The narrative style followed Gifted Thief’s tone: first person styled from the point of view of Integrity. I still can’t believe how well this worked for me, I’m really not a first person narrated book person lol Harper knows her business very well, I’ll have to check her other books out!

Integrity is one of the best narrators that I have ever encountered. She’s an ultimate nerd and loved a good pop culture reference just like all of us and tells jokes that are so incredibly bad that you find yourself laughing out of the stupidity of them. She also has the most amazing come backs for jerks or stuck up people. And all of this without losing her gentle nature ❤

yehey

The plot was simple, as it is a development of Gifted Thief, with a major problem at hand and many questions to be answered through the series. I loved how everyone had to tiptoe all the time in Sidhe society, as the intrigue and power games were never ending. I love a good gossip, haha! Also, it is the first time that we see how the Fomori demons really behave and I sense that things will get even more dark and dangerous on the next book. Chills!

i was born to darkness

The characters are still the highlight of Highland Magic series, starting with Integrity. There is a scene that other participants of the Games threat to rape Integrity and not even then she lost her balance and gave in to violent answers. I highly admire her for being so powerful and capable and still not taking full advantage of it to battle others. Not even Byron is that diplomatic – and the guy makes a run for his money. His personality still dazzles me and I do believe that the sex tension between him and Integrity could supply energy to all realms for generations to come, haha!

britney till the world ends sexual tension
something like this lol

The weirdest thing is that I’m not in a hurry for them to really be together, as I really like this frenemies relationship that they got. It is too hot, haha! I will love the moment that they become something real, but I’m happy with the wait – and believe me, this is really new and weird for me to be both saying and feeling, haha!

As a bonus, I took the liberty of highlighting some lines that explain why Integrity is the best narrator ever:

“I curtsied and wished him [Aifric] dead, before remembering that I was a pacifist and I shouldn’t ever wish for someone to die.”

“I sounded like a comic book villain. Maybe I should wear a cape.”

“Feeling like a character in a computer game, I prepared to run again. The only difference between me and Lara Croft, though, was that I didn’t have an automatic save or infinite lives.”

And, to deliver the final blow, this piece of dialogue between Byron and Integrity:

‘It’s me or you,’ he said.

I lifted an eyebrow. ‘It’s always me or your,’ I replied softly.

neal in bed laughing
my face when I read this

Overall, this series is taking a fantastic turn. If you like dystopian, magic, strong females, hot males and nerd references all over, just pick this up now!

5star

That’s it, thank you for reading 😀 And thanks again for Helen Harper for sending me this book, you made a fangirl very happy! I can’t wait for the next 😀

Carry On, from Rainbow Rowell

Hello, my dears. Today I’m finally talking about Carry On, from Rainbow Rowell. I know this review is so late, but honestly, it will be one of the most difficult ones that I have ever wrote. Brace yourselves and tighten your seatbelts. Let the emotional rollercoaster begin.

IMG_8230.JPG

The Story

Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One of the entire history of Chosen Ones. Wizard with awesome powers? Check. Ass kick fighting techniques? Check. Decent looks? Check. Total control over his actions, words and powers? Not at all. And his problems ironically only increase when his arch-enemy (and roommate) Baz doesn’t show up at Watford after the Summer break. Why can’t Baz just end his suffering by coming back to their freaking last year at school?

Baz is the worst vampire of the entire history of vampires. Blood thirst? Check. Handsome as hell? Check. Intelligent and high-cultured? Check. Big bag fangs? Check. Total knowledge about his powers, nature and destiny? Not at all. And sharing the room with his arch-enemy Simon Snow only increases his problems, as Baz can’t take his thoughts of Simon. Why couldn’t Simon just shut up and kiss him already?

Heated feelings, old grudges, first loves and magic. So much magic. That’s Carry On.

The Analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

This book.

If you follow me for a while, you may know that I have been on Jen’s place at my hometown and that I finished Carry On in the beginning of last week. You even may know how much I freaked out about Gifted Thief (and I still do, Honour Bound is my next read after The Dark Cycle series!). But nothing prepared me for what Carry On was really about. Since I’ve read Fangirl, I was dreaming of reading Carry On, to be a part of Simon and Baz’s world. I make no secret of how much I enjoy gay romances and Carry On had everything to be the most perfect book ever.

And it was.

And I think I’ll never recover from its perfection.

tumblr dean crying 1

I seriously can’t remember when was the last time that a book grabbed my heart and squeezed so hard that I couldn’t even breath without it on my hands (okay, I’m lying, it was on 2013 when Ava sent me an ARC of All In With The Duke and I almost died). I actually hugged Carry On every time I got to read it.

I never wanted to let it go after finishing.

damon crying 1

I’m so sorry this review is being overly melodramatic, but I was a mess. I couldn’t believe that I had reached the end and that this was such a perfect book. It was my first time crying over a perfect and happy end and I scared the hell out of my friends and family, to the point that my dad had to say that I would meet other books that would make me fall in love again. My rating? Infinite stars.

Okay, five because Goodreads won’t allow me to rate any higher.

The narrative style is first person with switching points of view. Seriously, almost every relevant character gets their time at narrating and you could always tell who was speaking even without Rowell’s labels – yes, there are labels, don’t worry. Needless to say that my favorite narrators were Simon and Baz, right? Hahaha. Other nice thing is that Rowell would do a chapter with some lines, then switch narrators in the middle of the chapter just to write one sentence or simply throw pieces of points of view from random characters that we would understand only at the end of the book. I’m not the biggest fan of first person narrated books, but this is how you KICK ASS doing it. I didn’t care at all for Agatha and I still had not a single problem reading her parts. Seriously. This is perfection.

let me love you

Okay, I’m okay. Moving on.

The plot was awesome. Simple and involving, with the right amount of romance, mystery, magic, friendship and drama. I missed more adventurous moves on Baz’s part regarding Simon and the fact that they shared a room at Baz’s manor, but I’ll survive. This is one of that boring kinds of review, in which you are so besotted with the book that you just can’t see its flaws.

Okay, I see them. There are many loose ends. Seriously. Not for the reader, but for the characters. We discover things, they don’t. As I’m a really selfish person (?), I’m okay with the characters not knowing it all if I do, so I’m cool with it. Hm, maybe that’s the problem. I fell so hard in love with Carry On that I love even its flaws.

the earth is doomed

Now the characters. As I may have already said on Fangirl’s review, Rowell’s characters are all girls and boys next door. Even if they are heroes, vampires, ghosts or anything else. I saw myself in Penny, Baz, Simon and even a little on Agatha, who I still don’t care about. This is witchcraft, Rowell. How do you make me like even the characters that I hate? Hahaha

I guess what pleased me the most were Baz and Simon’s flaws, to be honest. They made them too real. I remember when we fell too deep to feel, I remember when the real became too real, I remember when it hurt too much to heal and everything.

70740-hilary-duff-da-varios-matchs-no-600x315-1
Hilary Duff feelings, yes.

I don’t think I have anything really useful to say beyond this. They are real people living a romance and I was a crazy fangirl all the while. I’m sorry, I know I’m being really lame and lengthy on this review.

I saw many people complain about how Carry On was overly inspired on Harry Potter, among other young adult books, but this also didn’t bother me. I actually smiled every time I got a reference in the air. I felt like Rowell was writing Carry On just for me and those were our secrets, you know? And that was one of the stupidest things that I have ever admitted. Along with my hugging book habits above.

look i probably should sit down speech

The strongest point on Carry On is its feelings. It’s all too real, too beautiful. I seriously have not enough words to describe everything that I felt reading it, just that I was thrown on a rollercoaster and ended it hopelessly lovesick.

my heart is broken 1

Bonus point: the book’s illustrations to divide the story in parts. So cute.

Now, I’d like to share some of my favorite quotes from the book with you. And sorry if you’re my friend on Goodreads, I may have liked a million Carry On quotes today while doing this review.

Simon

“He’s looking at me as like I’m a complete freak. (Which we both already knew it was true.)”

Baz

“It’s 6A.M. and he’s [Simon] already banging around our room like a cow who accidentally wandered up here.”

“(Because I’m disturbed. Ask anyone.)”

“I’m thinking violent thoughts at you constantly.”

And this dialogue:

“What you are is a fucking tragedy, Simon Snow. You literally couldn’t be a bigger mess.”

He tries to kiss me, but I pull back- “And you like that?”

“I love it.” He says.

“Why?”

“Because we match.”

I don’t think I can endure another book hangover this strong ever again.

5star

Thank you for humoring me this far and enduring my interior and very depressed fangirl. I’m pinning badly for another Simon & Baz romance. Also, a special thank you to Jess, of the Mud and Stars, for not blocking me on Twitter after I finished Carry On; to Jenny and her mom, who had to endure a very crying me for at least two days; to Mandy, from The Reading Diaries, that had to hear me whining over this book hangover; to Lindsey from @thepagemistress, that is always there for me; and to my dad, that reminded me that I can always meet another book that will sweep me off my feet.

February New Books!

Hello, there! Good afternoon to you and sorry for the tardiness of this post today. It took me so much longer to write it than I had expected, ugh!

Anyway, today is that time of the month when I pick my favorite releases according to Goodreads lists and my own researches, haha!

Without further ado, I present you with my February Hot Releases! Dad, if you chose today to catch up with my blog, take some notes ❤

Day 2

tumblr_inline_nqeh0wKhX71qdr5v3_540.gif

I’m madly passionate about The Asylum series since page one of book one. Unfortunately, I haven’t encountered book three to buy and read yet, but I shall not give up! I can’t wait to read the extra stories, they sound awesome! #wishlist

  • The Hunter (Victorian Rebels #2), by Kerrigan Byrne

25398324.jpg

And you thought I would drop the historical romances deal, right? Eh, wrong. I may not add then to my to-read list on Goodreads, but I’ll still fuss over them, haha!

25813666.jpg

This book sounds mind blowing! I wish I could put my hands on it.

25489443.jpg

I love YA books with male main characters! We need more men in YA, haha! Goodreads’ blurb for this one got me hard, so I need to read this now! #wishlist

17912498.jpg

Another mind blowing one, but with an extra help: historical book! I love historical adventures ❤

17302879.jpg

I started to love ghost stories thanks to The Mediator series and even if it lost its position as the best one of its genre to Cemetery Tours series [link], I still need more!! #wishlist

Why almost all Meg Cabot’s covers are so crappy? For crying out loud, that is ugly.

21793182.jpg

My friend Mandy, from The Reading Diaries, introduced me to this book quite accidentally and it does sound cool! Now I want to read it as well ❤ #wishlist

  • Stars Above (The Lunar Chronicles 0.5, 0.6, 1.5, 3.1, 3.6), by Marissa Meyer

25689074.jpg

I couldn’t leave this book out of my selection. Recently, my friend Jess, from Mud and Stars, made my mind for real on this series and I will try to buy the first book this month to start it 🙂 Thank you, Jess! Besides, I needed to show case this, as the cover is gorgeous.

21518344.jpg

I saw this book today at my friend Nicole’s blog, Away in Neverland. She was so excited about it that I had to check the book. And guess what? I fell for it too, haha! Now this needs to hit my local bookstores asap!! #wishlist

26155842.jpg

Besides releasing all the novellas in just one book, they also released a new story for the Asylum series today, that’s why this title is also here ❤ #wishlist

24469443.jpg

Yes, another historical romance. I love Grace Burrowes, so I would never leave her releases out of my lists ❤

Day 8

24790901.jpg

This book is lucky that I loved its premise, because both the cover and the way that they have written the synopsis just suck. #wishlist

Day 9

25071479

And you guys though you were free of my obsession over queen Ava March. Poor you. She’ll be re-releasing Convincing Leopold with a brand new hot cover this month and TWO REVIEWS for her books are coming. Brace yourselves, haha!

23174274.jpg

I’m really excited to read Red Queen, so it would be stupid to leave this book out of my list 😀 #wishlist

25663810.jpg

This book sounds so amazing and mysterious! And it has a catchy title and beautiful cover and that’s why it is featured on this list.

24657660.jpg

This month, we seem to have a lot of mind-blowing books. This sounds like a Rapunzel retelling for me and I can’t wait to see if it’s true 😀

26215628.jpg

Hello, my name is wanton for historical romances. Add spying and beautiful distrustful males to the mix and you win my heart. #wishlist

23688792.jpg

This book sounds the perfect marriage between paranormal and sugared romance. I love both, so naturally I’m pinning for this one. Besides, have you seen this awesomely beautiful cover? #wishlist

25614810.jpg

I love almost non-fictional books, specially this kind. Also, the Borgias fascinate me, haha!

Day 11

26050845.jpg

This book had me hooked on the synopsis. Honestly, I good goose bumps reading it, I need more! #wishlist

26760091.jpg

I really want to read the first book in this series, as my friend Lindsey thinks I’d love it and she knows me very well, haha! I just had to announce this volume 🙂

Day 15

27570367.jpg

I usually am not a just romance kind of reader, but I loved the mystery behind this couple ❤ #wishlist

Day 16

27841704.jpg

Mind Blowing alert! I love books that have asylums as their theme as you may have realize from my early comments on this list, so I was on my toes to know what the hell is happening on this book! ❤ #wishlist

5c103b3b-3e14-4a88-8dec-ef93d446fd53.jpg

I can assure you that I have loved every book that I have ever read from Jordan. So what that they are only three? I already downloaded the first one in the SPECTR series and it is on my TBR shelf just waiting for it’s turn, so it was nice to know it has a brother, haha!

28496935.jpg

I love everything based on Sherlock Holmes. Just give it to me. Even if this story passes right before their retirement and may lead me to fangirl tears.

25746707.jpg

This book got my full attention on the first lines of the synopsis. Please, just grab me a copy of this jewel, thanks. #wishlist

25742250.jpg

As I’m pinning to start this series for a while (no such luck in finding it at my local bookstores, though), I’m really interested in any new releases for it 😀

23299513.jpg

Fairy tale retelling alert!! It’s a new adaptation of Snow White and has love born from hate! *–* I need this NOW! #wishlist

23658265.jpg

I loved this movie deeply and I love Disney novelizations, haha! #wishlist

Day 18

26842622.jpg

I love Sarah Pinborough, but only have read Tales from the Kingdoms series from her so far. As this book sounds really badass, I’ll try to change that by grabbing this one 😀 #wishlist

Day 23

After the Woods, by Kim Savage

17998474.jpg

Another mind blowing book! I love books that plays with the mind, haha!

25785357.jpg

I usually am not really a dystopian reader, but this book hugged me when I saw it on Goodreads. Now I need to hug it back. At my place. #wishlist

21396155.jpg

I had never seen a supernatural book with jinnies as main creatures/characters. This retelling of Aladdin made my head spin in excitement, haha! #wishlist

25654615.jpg

What did I say about the historical romance deal? lol

26071594.jpg

Yes, two in a roll.

Day 29

28476166.jpg

As Ava March’s book is a re-release, I had to chose another book to call favorite of the upcoming of this month’s lot. And I chose you, Honour Bound! I’ve read Gifted Thief [review here!] this past week and I’m too deeply in love. OMG, FEBRUARY 29TH WON’T BE HERE SOON ENOUGH!!!!!! #wishlist

So, I tried to be a grown up on this list and epic failed. Go me, haha! All the books marked with #wishlist are on my radar in case a miracle occurs on my local bookstores and I happen to find those releases there 😀 Or if I’m simply planning to buy it sometime in my life, haha! Dad, did you get the message? Over.

Thanks for reading and I’d love to know which releases you’re pinning for this month 😀

Gifted Thief, from Helen Harper (Highland Magic #1)

Hello, there! Today’s book is a sweetheart of mine. I received my copy of Gifted Thief, from Helen Harper, through NetGalley and I’m very thankful for that, as it was one of the best books in my life. The best part is that there is a sequel on the way! ❤ ❤

IMG_8039
from my Instagram 😀

The Story

Integrity has to admit that she is not exactly the number one citizen on town. Since escaping the Sidhe domain when she was eleven, Integrity learned everything that a high class thief needs to know and she is the best on what she does.

The problem is that you can’t escape your past forever. Especially when it comes on the form of a beautiful and sexy man named Byron, that knows exactly what he wants from Integrity and worse: how to get it.

Now Integrity has a big decision on her hands: to bow to the wishes of the people that always have hated her and help them out or to leave the Sidhe to their own luck and watch their magic end millions of lives – and not just Sidhe lives.

The Analysis

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂

Honestly, this book. I don’t recall the last time that I fell so hard for a female main character as I did for Integrity. She had me since page one and never once lost me – which is a very important accomplishment, as the book is narrated in first person by her and I usually have no patient at all with the protagonists. But I connected in such a level with her, it was just like if I had found a new best friend. I actually cried when the book ended because there would be no more Integrity waiting for me on my e-reader (and the end was perfect, just saying). I don’t know how I’m going to keep breathing until February, when the sequel is to be released. Helen Harper did a hell of a job here and think every human being on the planet should read this book. If I could, I would rate it a million stars

tumblr_m2b01sJkRx1qzvz1ao2_500.gif

The narrative pace was first person from Integrity’s point of view, which started as an annoyance. You know, on the first page of chapter one. Then, I fell in love with Integrity in a fashion that I simply can’t explain. She was so strong, but so human…. But I’ll get there, haha! It didn’t bother me at all that I didn’t know what as happening with the other characters during the book and this is new for me. I always want to know everything and that’s why I bitch over first narrative styles. Harper was so badass on her writing style that I was happy with Integrity and crawling for more, haha! Seriously, I don’t promise an impartial review this time, because I simply can’t measure perfection.

tumblr_mmnbif2lJd1r6kg9io1_500
with all due respect 🙂

The plot was wonderful. It seemed like it was simple, but there were so many twists and action that I never knew where I was standing with the people around Integrity – even with her friends. The way Integrity told us how things were was tons of fun. Harper inserted her reader on the story, making me feel like I was a voyeur to every scene, every dialogue. I’m in love.

For the sake of your sanity, I’ll first talk about the characters overall and then Integrity 🙂

tumblr_mk1p3bmUj41qmn01to1_r1_500.gif

Harper knew exactly what she was doing with her characters. They all are insanely well built and deep, even the ones that are not that important. You feel that they are emotionally human and real. Byron made his way into my bookish boyfriends list with his bad boy gone good way. To be honest, I still don’t know if he his all that good, but I shall have to wait until February to find out, haha! Jamie was a cutie, but not my kind of cutie. Taylor also was a hell of a man for raising Integrity as he did and I love him for that ❤ Also, there is Bob, the little genie in all his cuteness and mischief. This book has too many huggable characters ❤ There is also Lexi and Lily, the other nice girls. And Tipsy. O loved that this is the official nickname of this bitch, haha! I hated her, ugh.

Now, Integrity. Oh, Integrity. She was such a strong woman, sure of herself and of what she wanted… Even when she doubted herself, she was still in control of her emotions. Don’t get me wrong, she has her flaws. She does really bad jokes and has a bad timing in knowing when to shut up and stay low, but I am too enchanted to be bothered. Everything that she did seemed right, haha!

gifdinheiro_4

A really great point on this book (you know, besides all the other great things that I already said), is the semi-dystopian vibe. It’s the world that you know, but not quite. I loved the way Harper mixed magical races and what they could do in this book. Seriously, February won’t be here fast enough.

If you like strong main female characters, dystopian books, beautiful males, adventure and action with a touch of romance, just READ THIS BOOK.

5star

Thank you for indulging me until the end of this review, I love you ❤ You can find Gifted Thief both on ebook and paperback formats on Amazon.
