Blog updates: new stylish banners!
Hi, there! Just a quick note to share that my posts, from now on, will have cute banners to separate their sections! And I also made my own Goodreads image to use as a button, so my posts now will be more cute and padronized ❤
I didn’t do the cute draws, just put it all together with Photoshop, haha!
Aren’t they adorable? It’s amazing what a bit of glue- I mean, photoshop, can do to improve things, haha!
Hope you like it and that you’re having a wonderful weekend!!
The Sunshine Blog Award!
Hi, there! Welcome to my weekly book tag! Only that today it is actually an award! Thanks so much to my lovely friend Kim, from The Spines Breaker, for nominating me for The Sunshine Blog Award ❤ If you don’t already, just give her a follow, she’s amazing!
Da Rulez:
~> Thank whoever nominated you. (thanks, Kim!!)

Kim’s questions for me
- Do you judge books by their covers? What is your favorite?
I do, highly. I think that nowadays, with all technology disposed for pretty much everybody, a nice looking cover for anything is a basic requirement. Besides, I read too much about psychology to believe that people are not affected by cover contents when picking up a book, sorry lol
I don’t have a favorite cover, but I tend to prefer real people over illustrations on books. Unless we’re talking about sugared historical romances. Then I simply love those painted looking covers, with all that Belle Époque feelings to them ❤

- What is your spirit animal?
That’s a hard one. I used to think that it was the snake. Then I realized that I may be a bear, as I am chubby, huggable, love to eat (especially salmon) and have a current record of 18 hours of straight sleep. But then I remembered how I can’t hibernate on winters and how I hate summers, so I came to the conclusion that I’m a cat.
- Which Hogwarts houses do you belong to?
Slytherin. I chose it when I was only six and watched Harry Potter for the first time. Later on my life, every single quiz that I made confirmed my green and silver spirit. Even Pottermore put me twice on Slytherin – both on the old version and the new version of the website, haha!
- What is your worst fear?
To go blind. I’ve worn glasses since I’m three years old (with a five-year pause after I turned 14) and I’m terrified of not being able to read anymore.
- What is one thing you used to hate about yourself?
I’m detached. From everything. Sometimes, even from my books. I can’t bring myself to care about any subject for long, not truly. I haven’t changed, but I’ve learned how to cope with it. Maybe this is the way that my brain encountered to deal with the suffering and over excitement that every Leo goes through in life, haha!
- Black or White?
Black. You can’t go wrong with black ❤

- Your all-time favourite animated movie?
The Swan Princess. But that’s a tough one, haha!
- Describe yourself in one word 😉
Nice.
It can be a curse, trust me.
Nominated
- Jess, from Mud and Stars
- Nicole, from Away in Neverland
- Vinnie, from Vinnieh
- Victoria, from Addlepates and book nerds
- Shannon, from For the Love of Words
My Questions
- What is your favorite music genre?
- Team Britney or Team Avril? (2000’s question, I know lol)
- Do you read comic books? Why/why not?
- What’s your favorite(s) movie(s)?
- Do you have a favorite actress? What about a favorite actor?
- What’s your favorite book genre?
- What is your Hogwarts house?
- What are your chances at surviving a zombie apocalypse? (Mine is 67%, so I’m picking my team, haha!)
That’s it, thank you for reading 😀 If you liked this award and my questions, please fell free to do it too and say that I nominated you ❤
Top 10 Tuesdays: Childhood Favorites!
Hello, again! As Match Made in Mondays is on hiatus, I thought of joining another weekly meme that has caught my eye for a while now: Top 10 Tuesdays!
This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but as I am a bit of a rebel, I decided to start since theme one and picking only the ones I’d like to do 😀 So, my theme today is Top Ten Childhood Favorites 😀
- Fairy Tales in general
When I was younger, both my dad and my grandma used to read a lot for me and I was a sucker for fairy tales, specially this old ‘60s collection that I got. They used to belong to my dad and my uncle, but now they are mine ❤
- Harry Potter
My dad read the Harry Potter series aloud to me until book five. It was our deal, our own version of a book club. I felt betrayed when he said I was old enough to read Harry Potter on my own when the sixth book came out, haha!

- Witch Onilda’s stories
When I was around 7 or 8, this cartoon named The Triplets was a huge success here in Brazil. As the name suggests, we followed the adventure of three sisters with a witch for a godmother. That Witch was Onilda and she had an entire book series to her name, without The Triplets. I almost managed to complete it:

- A Series of Unfortunate Events
This was the first “serious” book series that I have read on my own and it followed me my whole life. I stopped reading it on volume nine when I was younger and only finished the series for good last year, haha! Btw, I hated that end.
- The English Roses
I have one the first book in The English Roses series from my shrink, as I hated to interact with new people, especially if they had my age – I always liked to hang out with grown ups or old people, never kids like me, haha! So, she gave me it because she knew it would be more effective than trying to make me have an epiphany on how I treated people that tried to get close to me, lol
- Usborne Puzzle Adventures series
I was OBSSESED with this series! I have so many volumes at home to this day… Just seeing them on my shelves makes my heart go all warm ❤
- Holidays at the Haunted Castle
This is a free translation, as this book is Brazilian Portuguese. I got it from my school library EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. Seriously. I found it a couple years back at an used bookshop and actually jumped around to buy it, haha! Now I have my own copy to treasure ❤
- The Red Herring Mystery
This book was my second hit on my school library, haha! The library girl literally rolled her eyes at me when I got this book or Holidays at the Haunted Castle, oops! I still am searching for a copy of this book, as I never had my own 😦
- Horrible Histories and Horrible Science books
Also found at my school’s library. I haven’t read nearly as many books of this collection as I’d like, but maybe one day I can finish it 🙂

- Kelly Martoer series
I first read this series on a book club on my elementary school and it was love at first sight: the story was so pleasant, there were “enchantments” and recipes to potions through the pages, as Kelly is a young witch. I was devastated that the series only had two books at the time and, as internet wasn’t such a magical place yet, until today I didn’t know that there were a third volume! *—* *grabs credit card and runs to online shop*
Wow, that was so fun! Thanks for reading and I hope you have enjoyed my Top 10 Tuedsdays’ post!
Liebster Award, The Third
Hello, good Saturday morning to you 😀 Today I bring you guys my third Liebster Award! My deepest thanks to Vinnieh, my lovely friend that nominated me. On his blog, you can find awesome movie and lyrics reviews and some smoking hot bum posts. If you don’t already, go give him a follow, he is brilliant ❤
Vinnieh’s questions
- What do you find most beneficial about being a blogger?
I got to meet so many incredible people and awesome books! Now, the sky is my limit, haha! I made friends, got better at English writing and doubled my share of read books on the year. It is very relaxing and rewarding, haha!
- What are your views on nudism?
I never though about that, haha! As I live on a big city on a tropical country, I’m used to shirtless people on the streets, crazy people going for a walk naked to protest over some matter or other, etc. I wouldn’t do it, but I think everyone deserves the freedom to dress or to not dress as they see fit 🙂
- Have you ever gone to see a movie that you were too young to watch at the time?
If we are talking about theaters, no, I didn’t. I’m 21 today with a 16 face, so I still struggle to see mere action movies, haha! But I watched tons of movies that weren’t for my age at home. My parents always trusted my judgments, for good and bad, haha!
- If you could date a Hollywood star, who would it be?
Ian Somerhalder, as he is incredibly sexy, talented, nice, animal lover and singer ❤
My second option would be Matt Bomer, haha!
- If you were the supreme ruler of a country, what would be the first law you would pass?
Thy shall not ruin, damage, bad mouth, steal or wrinkle books. The penalty for each of those infractions shall be… Deadly.
- What do you consider to be the best thing about your blog?
I think that what’s different on my blog is the way I do my reviews, with all humbleness 🙂
- Do you believe in the supernatural or paranormal?
I do, I think there are more between the sky and the ground that our eyes can see. Not all can be explained and I’m fine with that, haha!
- Where is your dream destination for a holiday?
I really want to visit Canada, England, France, Germany and the USA 🙂 I never got the chance to travel abroad properly.
- What is the first horror movie you recall viewing?
I know it is not really an horror movie, but mine would be The Mummy and all the movies that came after it. I remember watching them as a kid quite by accident with my parents and I lost my sleep for a week, haha! The monsters and insects crawling out of the sand still give me nightmares…
- If you had a magic power, what would it be?
I would like to be able to move things around with my mind. That way, I would also me able to fly 😀
- And finally, what do you believe the future holds for you?
Hopefully, a paying job, haha! And I know it holds a trip tomorrow to my hometown.
As this is my third award and I have seem this award on several blogs, I won’t tag anyone. But if you never received a Liebster Award and would like to, just comment and I’ll edit this post to nominate you and give you your eleven questions 😀
Thank you for reading and don’t worry, the blog shall continue to live even with my trips, haha!

Happy New Year!
Hello, guys! Happy late New Year! I hope everybody has a wonderful 2016, full of realizations, love and health 😀
I’m sorry I’ve been absent those last two days – they were INSANE. I’m not usually a person with a very busy social life, so you can understand my own astonishment in telling you that I simply didn’t stay home during the day and arrived to fall on my bed, dead, right? Haha!
Anyway, I’d like to thank you for sticking around despite the weird first half of year of the blog, haha! I started The Book Adventures of Annelise Lestrange on Blogspot in May and changed to WordPress in June 22th. Since then, there were 1.495 pageviews, 633 visitors, 129 published posts and 123 followers by e-mail subscription – I think it’s almost 30 via WordPress only.
Guys, honestly. THANK YOU.
I started the blog to have a hobby to compensate my head from my dissertation and this became my life. I was never a compromised person online before – I had many blogs in the past that never got to turn a month old, I could never stick to a social media site before Instagram and now I can’t life without both the book blogger and bookstagram community. You are a second family for me, thank you for everything!
I don’t plan on making any big changes for now, as I already did it in last November. We still have weekly, fortnightly and monthly sections + book/manga/comic book reviews + special random posts. You can see those sections in detail here, but let’s do a quick recap:
Weekly sections
Match Made in Mondays meme
TBR of the Week
Manga of the Week
Fortnightly sections
Authors from my heart ❤ (Book authors and mangakas)
TOP 3
Monthly sections
Must-have edition of the month
Book haul + wrap up + TBR for the next month
New releases of the next month
So far, that’s what we got over here 😀 And there is a new thing: after I had the time to go back home and have a routine again, I’ll prepare a post with a partial balance of my bookish boyfriends since I started the blog. All men that I can think of based on my 2015 reads will be there. Later on, I’ll prepare a page to leave the list there and will do a monthly post with the updates to you guys before including more names there 😀 Do you think this will be fun??
Oh, and I’d love suggestions on new sections, posts that you want to see, anything! 😀 Just leave your comments bellow and let’s talk!
Hmm, that’s it! Thanks for reading once again and Happy 2016! ❤
New feature: The Review Index!
Hello, again!
This is a quick post with an awesome update: I now have a Review Index! You may have already noticed it, as it is hanging on the top of the blog main page since the beggining of the week, but I was still making some ajustments, haha!
Now you can see all the reviews available on the blog for books, mangas and comic books all in one page, divided by cathegories and in alphabetical order of the authors last name 😀
If I could pick your curiosity, here it is the new page: Review Index.
The Partnerships page is still for received books only, but you will see those titles in the Review Index as well! ❤
That’s it, haha! Thanks for bearing with my small updates!
#12daysofbooksmas2 readathon! <3
Hi, there! Good morning and Happy Friday! Friday is always happy, but okay, haha!
I’ve got exciting news! (cof not really if you follow me at Instagram cof) I’m going to be participating of the #12daysofbooksmas2 readathon! 😀 I was invited in by my lovely friend @thepagemistress and this will rock!

Here we have the rules:
Read a book with red or green on the cover
Read about book that’s on your end of the year tbr
Read a book that takes place during the holiday season
Read a sequel
Re-read a favorite book
Read a book with a movie adaptation (and watch the movie)
Read a total of 1,200 pages!
This is going on from December 11th-22nd
This readathon has also a photo challenge, but I’ll only do it at my Instagram account, so follow me there if you want to see what I’m about, haha!
As to my TBR pile, I’m going to risk this one:
- Night World, vol. 1, from L. J. Smith (729 pages)
- The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, from Anne Rice (253 pages, talked about this book here)
- Cemetery Tours series, from Jacqueline E. Smith (514 pages, both books that I own. Talked about it here and, besides being my currently-reading, this is my sequel of the list!)
- Braver With You, from A. Hart (298 pages)
- The Carnelian Legacy, from Cheryl Koevoet (486 pages)
- Roses of The Angel, from Kalee Marshall (183 pages)
- Alice’s Adventures in Underland: The Queen of Stilled Hearts, from DeAnna Knippling (206 pages)
- The Answer, from D. M. Thornton (274 pages)
- Emma, from Jane Austen (currently-reading, my red book and book with a holiday season, haha!)
I know I am being too hopeful, but it’s my chance to knock my tbr pile of December for good, haha! Let’s see how I go! Oh, and I know there’s no signalized book with movie adaptation, I didn’t decide yet which one I’ll be reading, haha! Oops 🙂
That’s all about the readathon, for now! I’ll make another post about this when it’s over, talking about how it was my first readathon ever! ❤ Thanks again for inviting me, Lindsey, and thanks to you, that is reading the blog 😀
Match Made in Mondays: What song do you swear is literally one of your favorite books in musical form?
Hello, there! Sorry for my lack of posting, my uncle and cousin showed up at my place and my writing schedule got all messed up this weekend! 😦
But the good part in being on vacation is that I can write live posts, haha!
I’d like to apologize to my friend Audrey from Forwards and Bookwords, that hosts a Monday-ly meme called Match Made in Mondays that I entered. I couldn’t post last Monday, sorry 😦
But let’s go to today’s theme:
THIS BOOK/SERIES + THIS SONG/ALBUM (What song do you swear is literally one of your favorite books in musical form?)
My answer would be a song by Carrie Underwood called Blown Away that tells a little story:
Dry lightning cracks across the skies
Those storm clouds gather in her eyes
Her daddy was mean old mister
Mamma was an angel in the ground
The weatherman called for a twister
She prayed blow it down
There’s not enough rain in Oklahoma
To wash the sins out of that house
There’s not enough wind in Oklahoma
To rip the nails out of the past
Shatter every window
‘Til it’s all blown away
Every brick, every board,
Every slamming door, blown away
‘Til there’s nothing left standing,
Nothing left of yesterday
Every tear-soaked whiskey memory blown away
Blown away
Blown away
She heard those sirens screaming out
Her daddy laid there passed out on the couch
She locked herself in the cellar
Listened to the screaming of the wind
Some people called it taking shelter
She called it sweet revenge
Shatter every window
‘Til it’s all blown away
Every brick, every board
Every slamming door, blown away
‘Til there’s nothing left standing
Nothing left of yesterday
Every tear-soaked whiskey memory blown away
Blown away
I always thought that this song could inspire a very good horror romance for some reason, haha!
In other news, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR 100 FOLLOWERS ON THE BLOG! I never thought I would have a reader, imagine 100 readers?! =O You guys rock!
That’s it and, as always, thank you for reading and sticking around!
With love,
