(Alternative title: the book that made me into “the crazy girl from the 15th floor” to my neighbors because it was too awesome for me to keep my emotions to a human level)
Hello, guys! How are you doing? Are you ready for September? I’m ready for December since March, so… YAY SEPTEMBER! Hahaha 😀 Moving on to the book we’ll be discussing today: third volume to the Highland Magic series, from brilliant Helen Harper: Veiled Threat! I finished this in May or June, but you know. Drama drama drama, laziness, job and no review at all.
But never fear, this will be fixed! I won my copy from the author herself in exchange for an honest review and I can’t thank her enough for the kindness. She knew I was dying without Integrity in my life ❤ (I know, that sounded so wrong, hahaha!) Thanks, Helen! You rock hard!
Oh, before we start, you may want to read the reviews for books one and two on this series!
Gifted Thief (Highland Magic #1) | Honour Bound (Highland Magic #2)
Integrity can’t catch a break. After all the emotions of the Sidhe games, she got her ancestors’ lands back, but her problems are just beginning. There is something wrong with the local safety magic, her new place is glued to the Fomori entrance to their side of the veil, her crush’s father is still plotting to kill her and everybody thinks she’s building an army.
And to make things worse, her crush, Byron Montecrieff, is back to her life, as she needs to pay back a favor to another Sidhe family. Can Integrity focus on her mission, get the man of her dreams to believe that his father is a merciless killer and restore her clan’s magic?
There is only one thing certain on Integrity Taylor Aidar’s life right now: she needs vacation.
Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader 🙂
Soooo, if you knew me before my breakdown, you probably know I’ll all over the place when the subject is Integrity Taylor Aidar. She is my ultimate bookish bff and I can never get enough of her or this series! ❤ If you wanted a bitchy review, well… As two contemporary and respected thinkers would say…
Sorry, guys! Without any further ado, this was a five stars read. Besides seeing my beloved characters once again, I also got to have chills at the unknown and almost die with the HARD twist right before the end. Also, it was the first time we saw the story from another perspective, as this series is told by Integrity herself. Which takes us back to the first person narrator thing: this was a case of deep and mad love for the protagonist that made everything work out ❤
Well, I’m tripping over myself on this review, haha! As I already talked about the narrative, I’m going to only add that Harper’s writing style – full of humor and clever remarks – is bewitching to the point that I talked back to the book when Integrity was mussing around, haha! And that was how I got known by my neighbors as the crazy girl from the 15th floor. My favorite part in the technical aspect is how Harper is able to give life to the book as a whole thing – not only for her characters. I felt it all reading this series and, with Veiled Threat, wasn’t any different.
The plot was by far the best of the three books. I felt on the edge from page 1 to 238. As I told, there is a huge twist in the end that I totally didn’t see coming and was crying before realizing what the hell was happening, oops! Have I already mentioned that Harper is a genius? SHE IS. I also love that, no matter how heavy things are, she always finds a way to break the reader’s tension, you know? She gives us time to digest all the bad things without being boring 🙂 I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I don’t know about you guys, but I really feel the burden of a totally dramatic book from beginning to end 😦
As it goes with characters, I liked the new ones that we meet and I must say that I’m a character hoarder. I mean, I love when you slowly pile up characters into a plot and everybody lives with everybody, haha! The more, the merrier, and that is how this series goes ❤ Integrity meets new friends, new villains and they are all there with her all the time, haha!

Hm, I can’t think of anything new to say about characters, as this is my third volume, haha! Integrity is still her clever and funny self, Byron is still a sexy bitch, his father is still a bore and everybody is still awesome, haha! #sohelpful #sarcasm
Now, can we just stop my drooling for a moment to appreciate the awesome cover of Veiled Threat, please? Seriously, I loved it so hard. I wish I had a paperback with this, haha! Maybe next year 🙂
Hmm, I don’t think I have anything else that is useful to say besides: YOU NEED THIS BOOK SERIES IN YOUR LIFE! Do you like fantasy? Dystopian? Awesome Geek references? Kick ass female protagonists? Sexy men? JUST RUN TO AMAZON AND DOWNLOAD THIS FOR GOD’S SAKE! I need people to fangirl with me over this series!!!!
Thanks for reading all of this! I know I tend to babble a lot – if not ranting, complimenting, haha! – so thanks for the patience 😀 Also, thanks again to Helen Harper for being the awesome person she is and for sending me her book ❤ December won’t be here soon enough for me to read the next book!!
Love you all and see you some other random time!
[…] of him and understand his motives better, but nothing beats Isis Blake as a narrator – not even Integrity Aidar, I’m afraid. But I’ll get to this later, […]
